Awesome!  I was waiting to get a little feedback from my early adopter beta testers (like you) before making a public announcement about the new Apple version beta with the mixed song and announcement.  Very glad to hear it is working for you.  I am pretty happy with how it works and sounds on both Android and Apple.  The only real drawback is that it wont work with subscription music sources like Apple Music, but I figure you really only have to buy the songs you are using for walkouts so not a huge money investment to get the professionalism you noted.

This feature how now been implemented in the Android version 2.5.1 available from the Play store as of 11/16/18.

I will investigate the possibility of adding it to the Apple version as well, but it will require purchased songs and will not work with Apple Music songs.

Version 2.5.1 of the Android version of Walkout Song DJ was released from the Play Store on November 16th, 2018

Included in the new version:
- added support for mixed walkout song and announcement
- several bug fixes and performance improvements

The app isn't geared toward Apple devices, but that is the platform it was written for originally back in 2013 when iTunes and iPods were the primary mobile music platforms.  The Android version was finally released this year and sales growth is good, but Currently the app sells 10x on Apple vs Android and the user base ratio is 23000 to 1800 so I tend to assume most comments here are from Apple users unless someone mentions Android in their post.

It should be possible to do an overlap with mp3 files on Android and I was considering testing that out in a beta over the offseason.  I will comment on this thread if I am able to get it working.

Sadly that is not yet possible using Apple Music subscription songs which are used by >90% of people with the Apple App and would also not be allowed with a Spotify integration if they ever grant approval. 

I could do it with purchased songs on iOS and Android, but I fear that would lead to a great deal of confusion and support issues for the one support person... me.

I do watch every new iOS release to see if they have added the independent volume control required for this feature and will implement it as soon as it is possible.

If you have the latest version of the Apple and Android apps on the respective devices, you can export your settings from the Apple version from the settings page of the app.   That will create an email with an attachment you can send to the other parent with the Android.   She can then open the email on her device and import your settings.

The big gotcha is that the music files cannot be transferred as that would violate music industry terms of usage.  If she can get the same song files loaded on her Android before the import, then the app is smart enough to locate and match them by artist and title and all should work.

Any recorded announcement files are also not transferred...  there is no law against that one, I just haven't figured out a good way to transfer larger files like that.

I have been testing the 2.4.2 version of the app with iOS 12 and though most functionality is working, there are significant new issues with the iOS12 handling of mixed audio sources to a bluetooth speaker.  The result is inconsistant muting of announcements and song playback.

 I am working on an update to workaround the iOS issues, but it is quite a mess and will likely require delays during switching of sources.  There also is an iOS 12.1 in beta that may address the issue.

Options for you would be to wait for my fix or just use a long aux cord to the speaker rather than bluetooth.  Considering the general latency of bluetooth, I would recommend the aux cord as a much better performance approach always.

Yes, this was resolved in iOS 11, but I have not retested with iOS 12 yet.  I will try to retest that with iOS 12 in the next day or so and see how it works for me.  The fix for the problem did require some kludgy delays to work around oddities in the Apple music player and the system volume manipulation required to fade the walkout songs.  I would not be surprised at all if the new iOS requires tweeks of those delays.

Long term, if it was me, I would use a long aux cable to the bluetooth speaker or use purchased songs rather than Apple Music so my app can do the fading using the audio samples rather than the system volume.

It has to be this hard because the music industry wants to prevent you from sharing music at all costs and all music suppliers assume you will only use their music in their app...

Google music does not yet provide any player api for any of their music services.  I have been watching for one. 

In theory, I could provide support for playback of any youtube url, but the app would then require continuous internet access for playback as it would break youtube terms of service to cache anything.  Would that still be of value with that condition?

iOS beta 2.4.2 of Walkout Song DJ is now available. 

Changes for this release:
-added support for iPhoneX screen layout
-reduce delay between announcement & walkout song in before mode
-fix number sequence bug in inc/dec of cue time
-silence the stutter in first Apple Music song playback after app open
