Issue Reporting / Re: Ping
« on: March 31, 2018, 09:37:13 am »
I dont see an email with the ping sound and your post got truncated... turn off smart punctuation on your device.  The forum doesn't like the smart apostrophe.

Issue Reporting / Crash bug in version 2.3.17 for iOS
« on: March 30, 2018, 09:50:56 pm »
Found a bug in the song cue and duration configuration screen that will crash the app when it reaches playback end.   If you already updated to version 2.3.17, stay away from the [>] button.

Issue Reporting / Re: Apple Music integration broken in iOS 11.3

New release 2.3.17 for iOS is available in the app store.  It should address the bugs and changed behavior of the Apple Music player in iOS 11.3.

Sounds plausible.... definately try do not disturb and perhaps close all other apps that could be using bluetooth.  If that works, then track down the notification sound and see if you can find what is using it in the ios settings.

hmmm...  this ought to be fun to debug.   :-\

First, can you record the sound you are hearing from the speaker?  That will give me a better idea of what the source might be.  Email that to the address in my user profile here.

Can you try a test with an mp3 or m4a file playing in the app through that speaker?  That will help confirm if it is the Apple Music player and accessories that contains the source.

If you can't find an mp3, I can email you one to the email in your user profile.

Issue Reporting / Re: Ping

Well...  for sure don't upgrade to iOS 11.3 yet.  Apple messed up a bunch of stuff for the app in 11.3 and I had to write 10 or so workarounds to deal with the new odd behaviors.  I do have a new  version in review with Apple as of the wee hours of last night, but I suspect it may take a little longer than their usual slowness to get the update in the store since they probably broke many 3rd party apps as they usually do.

Now on to debugging the ping...

Do you use Apple Music subscription songs, individually purchased songs, or a combination of both?

The app uses different operating system players for those two types, so could you tell which type of file is generating the ping?

Issue Reporting / Apple Music integration broken in iOS 11.3

Apple Music Users BEWARE iOS 11.3

I've been testing the new Apple Music integration with the iOS 11.3 betas and there were many problems. I downloaded the public version of 11.3 and there are still problems. I will be working to see if I can find workarounds, but for now I would recommend not upgrading to iOS 11.3 until you see a note here that it is working!!

I have tested and just retested with a blue tooth speaker and I don't get any ping.

Could you give me some detail on the version of the app, version of iOS?

When you say directly in iPhone/Apple "music"  do you mean the iOS music app?

Another method I see used alot in both the iOS and Android version is using Youtube to mp3 converters.   There are a bunch of fly-by-night websites for the task, but they turn out pretty risky with advertisements and virus potential.

There is a pretty good free app for PC (Not Android) called "FreeMake YouTube to MP3 Boom"
http://www.freemake.com/free_youtube_converter/

It lets you search for titles, listen to make sure it is what you want and then a download button which puts the file in your PC music folder.  Find the file there, email it to yourself, open the email on your device, tap the attachment, open with Walkout Songs and it should be there in your import files list.

General Discussion / Re: Searching songs??
« on: March 28, 2018, 09:44:14 am »
The Apple Music API allows an app to search for a song and add it to the users iTunes library, but it does not provide any method to download the song from the cloud to physical storage on the device.  In theory, the app could play streamed songs from the Apple cloud, but that creates very unhappy customers if they try to use the app for a game that does not have internet access.

I do keep a watchful eye on the Apple operating system releases and I will add song search as soon as the capability to trigger song download to the device is available.

Issue Reporting / iOS version crash when tapping the edit button
« on: March 27, 2018, 02:36:16 pm »
I have been seeing a very occasional crash when the user taps the edit button in the iOS version.

I have been unable to duplicate the problem in any of my test devices so I suspect there must be something in the sequence of events before it occurs that I'm not aware of.

If anyone has seen this crash happen on their app, could you please reply on this thread with any context around when it happened to you?

Issue Reporting / Apple Music song fading at random times 2.3.8-2.3.13
« on: March 23, 2018, 10:54:33 am »
In order to fade the Apple Music songs in the iOS versions using the restricted player that Apple provides, I am forced to snapshot, incrementally drop to zero, then restore the volume of the device.  This generally works very well, but there were some bugs in the early versions of Apple Music support (2.3.8-2.3.13) that left playback sessions in the background that would fade the volume at random times.  If you are running into this issue, search for the App in the App Store and get the latest version >= 2.3.14.

Just in case there are still people following this thread...   the Android version was released a couple weeks ago and has had several rounds of polishing releases to get something pretty stable at this point.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Re: Team Names
« on: March 21, 2018, 05:25:20 pm »
I'm sorry, there is no way to move players between teams yet, but I am working on that feature.   My initial assumption was that users would select the team and then add players to it.  I've heard from a couple people that was an invalid assumption and they want the ability to drag copy players from one team to another.   Dragging rows in the same table is pretty easy to do in both iOS and Android, but dropping rows to a side view table turns out to be really complicated :(

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Re: Announcer Volume
« on: March 21, 2018, 01:06:11 pm »
On the overlay of the announcement and the walkout... that is pretty complex overall because of the coordinated volume and timing sequence.  In my tests, the user would need the ability to configure both of those options on a song by song basis to get quality output and I would somehow need to gracefully preclude using Apple Music songs with that option because I cannot independently control the volume of the player Apple requires I use to play those.  I have to actually snapshot, fade, and restore the volume of the whole device for those songs.  Ugly, but it works.

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to analyze the usage mix between Apple Music subscription songs and unrestricted song files to see what the mix is.  My last three day snapshot puts the Apple Music percentage around 40% but that may be a spike because of the recently added support.   If there is still a reasonable percentage of people using unrestricted song files, then I will take a look at how to mix the announcement and walkout song as an advanced option.

Thank you for the suggestion!
