General Discussion / Re: Suggestions
« on: April 29, 2016, 09:33:15 am »
For #1, I will have to ponder on that for a bit.  The code for multiple pages used on the walkout part is pretty complex and I'm not sure I like the user experience it presents.  I may chose to rework that mechanism in future versions.  If so, I will keep in mind the option to include the same functionality for the other tabs.

For #2, I should be able to remove the sanity check for a song configured to allow it to just announce the player without playing a walkout song.   The original intention of the app was for playing only walkout songs, but it seems the announcement features has become pretty popular.  I was wondering how users were dealing with the announcing for the visiting team.  Thanks for answering that question and suggesting a pretty good solution.

For #3, I was already planning on adding that.  I am actually planning to add the ability to directly import mp3 songs and sound affects for use as both sounds and player announcements.  A set of basic necessity sound effects would be part of that.  However, that is a pretty drastic change and I prefer to do those type of things in the offseason so as not to introduce crash bugs and instability when the app is most used.

Look for a major update sometime around the October/November time frame which will probably include #2 and #3.

Thanks for the suggestions... they are always appreciated!

Issue Reporting / Re: Annoucer stops announcing
« on: April 25, 2016, 05:03:36 pm »
This issue has been reported by a few people, but generally only happens very occasionally.

So far I have been unable to determine what causes the issue... The app makes a very simple call to an iOS system function with the text to announce and the system takes care of the rest.

Can you tell me what voice you are using, what model device and what version of iOS?

You make good points that I hadn't thought of.   I assumed that most people would pick a default duration for those and stick with it and then adjust individual songs by using the cue/duration selector page.

I should be able to keep a flag somewhere that indicates whether an individual song duration has changed from the default since it was created and then adjust all of the ones that haven't been changed from the default whenever a change is made to the default.

I will make a note of that for the next update...  thanks for the suggestion!

General Discussion / Re: New Announcer Voice downloads?
« on: April 18, 2016, 12:32:17 pm »
Well, unfortunately, those voices are all produced by Apple so I have no ability to add to them.  I agree that the Daniel voice is the best one so far, but it does give a cricket feel.  Generally, voice additions show up with each iOS update so I would suggest just taking a look for new ones whenever your device is updated.

I am planning to allow the announcement sound byte to be recorded or imported and I have been approached by the stadium announcer for the Atlanta Braves, Casey Motter, as a potential source of recording those.   He has done some recording of announcements for travel teams in the Atlanta area and would like to expand.

Issue Reporting / Re: Uploading music to Walkout Song DJ
« on: April 17, 2016, 11:37:33 am »
The app can currently only play music that is downloaded with unrestricted digital rights into the iTunes library on the device.  The two normal ways to get the songs into the iTunes library on the device are:

Purchase them from iTunes and tap the cloud down arrow button to get them local to the device.

Import songs in MP3 format into an iTunes app on a pc or Mac and then select and sync with the device.

Songs acquired from Apple Music, even when you tap the cloud down arrow button, are not accessible by third party apps on the device.  I believe this is due to an Apple digital rights protection issue where the artists only grant Apple the rights to play the songs in its music app.  You have basically paid only for the rights to play the music in that specific app.

I am currently investigating the possibility of accessing songs in Spotify libraries as I suspect that will have a shorter path to success than trying to access Apple Music.

There is currently no way to import files to the app other than through itunes, but I am currently working on that functionality.   But even when I have the import function, I'm not sure the app will be able to play all ringtone files.  It would depend on what sound format, the ringtone is in.

As a workaround... if the ringtone is an mp3 file or if you can find a way to convert the ringtone to an mp3 file, you should be able to import it using itunes on a PC or MAC .   I was able to do that with several situational clips over the years.

General Discussion / Re: Announcement

That is very odd... Is there punctuation in any of the names?  Is there any particular name that causes it to stop announcing?  What voice are you using?

Enhancement Requests / Re: Input an MP4 file outside of iTunes
« on: April 03, 2016, 11:15:38 am »
There currently isn't a way to upload a file into the app other than through itunes, but I am working on adding that feature in this coming off season.   That is a big step towards allowing the app to work on Andriod and just to add general flexibility in the sound source options.  I also plan on adding the option to record or import sounds for prerecording the player announcements as an improvement over the current text to speech support.

For your current situation, I would suggest converting the mp4 audio file to mp3 which should allow import to itunes and use in the app.  I have done that with a couple situational sound bites and it works pretty well.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Larger Buttons for iPad

Those sound like pretty good feature improvements and low risk to implement.

I have added them to the list for the next update.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Tap the 'edit' button to the top left of the players table...   that should display little grippers to the right of each player row.  Tap and drag the gripper for the player you want to move up or down in the lineup.
