General Discussion / Re: Cannot use Apple Music library
« on: March 10, 2018, 02:26:02 pm »
Apple Music songs were not supported until the release that is currently in beta test.  It was a rather monumental task to work around all the limitations that Apple put on playing those songs.  I waited with each iOS release hoping Apple would add a reasonable interface, but they still have not.  As Apple Music support produced almost all the 1-star and negative reviews, I decided to see if I could find some tricks to get the restricted Apple Music song interface to work well enough and I believe I succeeded.  I plan on public release by next weekend, but i can add you to the beta test list if you need it sooner.  Just send me a forum message with your email.

General Discussion / Re: Android app
« on: March 07, 2018, 05:44:26 am »
It should accept files with extensions mp3 or m4a and a couple others.  Those are the most common these days.  It is also quite possible the file you tried was fine and some sanity checks I have in the import kicked it out for no good reason.  The Android app has only been released for a couple weeks and I am still finding things to fix on a daily basis.

If you would like to email me the file you tried, I can figure out why the app rejected it and get it fixed if the file is valid and playable by the Android media framework.  My email can be found on my member profile here or at the bottom of the app listing on the google play store.

Regarding the best place to download files... I would recommend just buying them from Amazon.  15 dollars should cover the whole team. Pretty reasonable compared to the price of a new bat for your player.  I did see there is a SoundCloud to mp3 converter listed on Google so perhaps that would work too.

When the link took you to the app, did it ask whether it was a song or announcement?  That indicates it was a valid sound file format.  If so, hopefully you picked

Easiest way is to email the song files to yourself, open the email on your phone, tap on the song file attachment, and there should be some form of destination dialog that has the Walkout Songs app listed to copy to.  Then the Walkout Song app will ask you if it is a song or player announcement and store it in an import folder where you can browse songs for your players.

You can also transfer songs using cloud storage like dropbox, google drive, and such.  Put the song on the cloud service, open the cloud service app, find the song, tap on it and the option to open with Walkout Songs should be there.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Import Players between Teams
« on: March 06, 2018, 01:28:37 pm »
That is a pretty good idea and should be doable...  I will add that to my feature list for the next update cycle and see what I can do.

Thanks for the interest!

General Discussion / Re: Moving edited/cued music from tab to tab
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:57:56 pm »
That does make sense and shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish.

Probably something like drag the player to the teams icon or left side of the page and it opens the team list to allow you to drop on a team and then ask  move or copy?

Does that sound like it would work?

Looks like I may have figured out enough tricks to manage most of the iOS limitations and allow the Walkout Song DJ app to use songs from an Apple Music subscription.  Still can't access the raw audio samples so gain control and equalizer cannot be applied, but everything else seems to be working.

Since lack of support for Apple Music subscription songs is the biggest source of 1 star ratings and negative reviews, it seems like the time is now to accept some limitations and allow the support even if it is not quite at the experience level of purchased songs and let the user make that choice.

I plan on starting a beta with the Apple Music support this week.  If you are interested in participating in the beta, please message me here or on the support forum with your email address.

New features and changes for 2.3.5 include:

- Rewrite of team management and interfaces
- Correctly announce players that do not have numbers
- Improved error message for song files not found opposed to unplayable formats
- Correct button states when deleting last item on any page
- Fix section header alignment of walkout page after import
- Enable name capitalization on Players and Situation entry

Just wanted to alert users to another option for importing song files that is available with iOS 11.

There is a new files app in iOS that will show cloud sources for files.  If you put song files in mp3 or m4a format on those cloud drives, you can tap and share them with Walkout Song DJ.

Issue Reporting / Re: Uploading music to Walkout Song DJ
« on: February 22, 2018, 05:44:55 am »
Find the gears app icon for the settings applet,  scroll down the left side to the music app icon, tap that.  On the right side should be a ‘show apple music’ toggle you can disable.  You should also disable the ‘icloud music toggle’ in that same page.  That is the switch that tells apple you are ok with them replacing your owned songs with their rights protected versions.

With those both off, you can go into the music app, find your purchased songs and tap the cloud icon to get them local to your device.

Issue Reporting / Re: Uploading music to Walkout Song DJ
« on: February 20, 2018, 04:50:23 pm »
The issue with the App not being allowed to play songs from Apple Music subscription still exists... because frankly it is all in the hands of Apple.  I would love to resolve it as it is the majority of the complaints and support requests for the app.   As soon as Apple makes it an option, I will have an update to support it within days.

All songs you purchase from iTunes should work.  If you are having issues with that, I would recommend disabling the 'Show Apple Music' in the Music section of the iOS Settings applet.  Then for songs that don't work, delete the local copy and redownload from the cloud.

I do understand your impression that 'Apple Music' songs should work with the app... I'm right there with you.  But I do mention directly in the app description that they do not to try to avoid hassle for people.

I have found an option that works to avoid having to buy songs you already have from Apple Music. On a MAC or PC, Download a free trial of this application:
http://www.macsome.com/itunes-converter-mac/

That application will convert Apple Music subscription files to non-restricted mp3 files that you can then email to yourself and import to the app.

The only restriction on the trial version of that converter application is that it cuts the conversion at 3 minutes, but that is usually plenty of time to get the part of the song you need for the walkout.

If you still have no use for the app, feel free to request a refund from Apple, but please let them know that the reason is because they won't allow third party DJ style applications to play songs from your Apple Music subscription.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Add music from Amazon prime music
« on: February 16, 2018, 09:49:16 am »
I looked at adding support for Amazon Prime Music last year and they did not have any third party interfaces available for developers to use to integrate into mobile apps.

I will take a look again and see if that has changed and keep it on the radar if it still has not.

Thanks for the suggestion!
