Issue Reporting / Re: Songs in cloud?
« on: May 01, 2014, 09:14:48 am »
If they were songs downloaded from iTunes long ago, then I would suspect they have some digital rights protection.  Before 2009,  the music you downloaded from iTunes was encrypted to protect it from people copying and giving to friends.  Walkout Song DJ is not provided the encryption keys from iTunes so those songs can't be set as a walkout song.

There are options from iTunes to convert protected songs to non-protected versions, but I have not been able to test any of them because I do not have any songs with protection.

Apple also seems to change the suggested method to deal with the conversion every year or so.

From what I can determine, burning those particular songs to a CD with the iTunes PC app, and then importing them as mp3 files is the simplest and cheapest method.

Issue Reporting / Re: Songs in cloud?

The only reason I have seen for that error message is when the particular song file has not been downloaded to the device.  It usually occurs when you buy a song from iTunes for one device and download it only to that device.  If you then try to add that as a walkout song on a second device that shares your iTunes account, then you will usually end up with the cloud error message.  In those cases, you can open either the iTunes or the Music app on the device you are using for walkout songs and that song should have a little icon shaped like a cloud with a down arrow.  If you tap on that cloud the song downloads and it then can be added as a walkout song.

If you have opened the music app and verified that the song does not have a cloud icon, then you may have a new issue that I have not encountered yet.

If that is the case, could you please give me a little context on how the song was added to the device and what type of music file it is?

I definitely have considered that option and I believe it would be possible.

I have frequently done both the score keeping and walkout songs on individual devices and I agree it is pretty difficult especially when things in the game get complicated.

Unfortunately GameChanger has a customer base about 200 times the size of Walkout Song DJ so they would have to take the lead on it.

Perhaps you could make your suggestion on the GameChanger forums...  I would be willing to make the hooks for them to play the songs if they would be willing to attempt the integration.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It appears we are finally gaining some momentum on the Android version demand  :)

We will have to start investigating the logistics of that translation.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Sort ABC or by #
« on: April 04, 2014, 07:25:13 pm »
That should not be too hard to accomplish on the iPad version because it has column headers that could be tapped.

The only negative I could see is someone accidently sorting a lineup that they set up in a particular order, but a lineup like that would probably not be more than 10 or 15 players and pretty easy to rearrange by hand.

I will test it out and see how it works.

Release Notes / Release Notes for version 2.1.9
« on: March 17, 2014, 02:35:05 pm »
The following improvements are included in Walkout Song DJ release 2.1.9 which was released from the app store on Mar 17, 2014

Fix zombie music player crash bug
There was an opportunity for the music player to callback to an invalid zombie object when a new song was started while a song was already playing.  This generally led to an application crash and restart and occurred more frequently with very busy devices.  A proper wait was added when stopping the existing song to allow all callbacks to complete before destroying the player object.

Corrected the cropping on the Walkout and Pregame tab bar icons
The iOS 7.1 release removed some display cropping from the icons in the tab bar and this allowed the walkout and pregame icons to overlap the caption of the tab bar icons in a rather unattractive manner.  The icon images were trimmed to what had been displayed in earlier iOS versions which eliminates the overlap.

Smoother fade logic
Changed the fade algorithm from straight linear decay to square root decay.  This will drop the volume quicker in the beginning of the fade but with longer sustain.

Issue Reporting / rare crash bug in version 2.1.8
« on: March 14, 2014, 09:18:53 am »
Version 2.1.8 was based on a new audio player structure to support the manual fade functionality.   That new structure appears to have a rare instability generated by some devices or some songs on those devices (2 devices out of 170 updates), that causes a crash of the app during transition between playing songs.

The source of the problem has been found and fixed and a new version 2.1.9 was submitted to the app store on Mar 14th.

The app store typically takes 4-5 days to complete the review process.

There is an expedited review process available, but this bug does not yet appear to be prevalent enough to request the process.

If you haven't upgraded yet, then I would recommend waiting for the next update instead.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Announcement of player name and number
« on: March 13, 2014, 11:00:58 pm »
I verified in the iOS documentation that I do not yet have access to choose the Male Voice even with iOS 7.1

I anticipate that access will be added in future iOS versions, but until then we are stuck with the female one.

Does the ipad have ios 7?  The only thing I know that should prevent the announcement is ios 6.  There is no interface for apps to do voice generation with ios 6.

On the male voice, that was not an option before ios 7.1 and that just came out today.  I will investigate how to select that programmatically and add the option if it's possible.

I'm not sure about changing the voice...  I could only find that one Siri voice on any of my devices.

The code does not pick any particular voice so I'm hoping as Apple expands the support then the app should pick up the default setting.  If I do find available API options for changing it, I will add a selection to later versions in the app settings.

Release Notes / Release Notes for version 2.1.8
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:21:55 am »
The following improvements are included in Walkout Song DJ release 2.1.8 which was released to the app store on Mar 13, 2014.

Manual Fade Button:
There is a new button in the header of the app that will allow the user to immediately fade the playing song. This is very useful in cases where the batter is ready earlier then planned or the inning break ends faster than average.

Option for automated voice announcement of batter after walkout song (iOS7):
There is a new toggle switch in the Walkout Songs pages of the iOS settings app entitled "Enable Player Announcement".  When this toggle switch is enabled, there will be a computer voice automated reading of the player number and name after the walkout song begins to fade.  Obviously, the quality of the reading depends entirely on the accuracy of the player data entry.  You may also need to adjust the spelling of the name to get the correct pronunciation.  Also note, although the toggle switch exists for all iOS versions, the automated voice is only available only in iOS 7 or greater.

Grey out 'between innings' song titles that were already played that day
As you play songs from the between innings page, the titles for the songs are marked with a lighter grey font.  This allows you to quickly determine which songs you have already played on that particular day.  The song items will reset to the normal font if the between innings page is opened on a new date.  There is also a reset button in the table header to allow you to reset the titles whenever necessary.

Scroll the player cell into view when editing
Prior to this version, when you tried to edit a player or situation name that was at the bottom of the table, the iOS keyboard would cover the entry so you were forced to type blindly.  This has now been corrected by scrolling the entry into view.

Change from stop button to pause button in app header
The icon image for the toggled play/pause in the header of the app was changed from a square stop image to the traditional pause image.  The functionality has not changed and the player state has always been pause when that image is displayed so this change just brings consistency to the UI.

Issue Reporting / ios 7.1 tab bar icon overlap
« on: March 12, 2014, 02:51:57 pm »
With the new 7.1 ios update, Apple seems to have eliminated some cropping of the tab bar icons that has been done since 6.1.

This allows the walkout and pregame icons to overlap the caption of the tab bar icons in a rather unattractive manner.

A fix is already prepared to submit to the app store, but the app store has still not finished with the 2.1.8 release and that release has important feature changes.

Rather than delay the features for a purely cosmetic fix, a new update for the icon ugly will immediately be submitted to the app store once 2.1.8 has been approved.
