Many Bluetooth speakers especially when connected to an Apple device playing Apple music can be a serious pain with unexpected volume loss, missed playback of the song or the announcement or both.  I have tested with many and tried many different tricks and tweaks to try to get them to behave but they still act up more often than not.

I finally found a pretty reasonable solution that i can share:

Buy this little Esinkin Bluetooth receiver from Amazon:
https://a.co/d/31BNP5V
Price was 23.99 when this was posted.

Put that device near your problematic Bluetooth speaker, attach the usb power adapter from the usb of the speaker to the Esinkin power input, connect from the Esinkin RCA out using the provided cable to the speaker aux port.  Put your speaker in aux mode, connect your apple device via Bluetooth to the Esinkin and Walkout Song DJ should play much more reliably through that combination.

Note: You still may need the 'Send external speaker Wake-up' enabled on the settings page of the app for some speakers that want to go to sleep within seconds of the last playback regardless of how they are connected.

Yes...
On the Apple version: on the settings menu, under ai audio affects submenu, there is a gain slider
On the Android version: on the settings menu, announce gain slider

Slide that in small increments until the balance is better.  It can generate distortion if you go too far.

The volume slider on iOS is only on iPad screens where there is room.  For iPhone you use the normal volume buttons.

The red triangle vertical line button will skip the configured stop time and allow the song play to the end or until you manually fade or stop it.

Not sure why you would want the default values to be endless as that pretty much defeats the purpose of configuring a song to start and stop in the time it takes for a batter to get to the plate or for the teams to warm up between innings.

I believe there was just an outage yesterday at GitHub that prevented download.  Give it a try today and see if it works.

I am now able to duplicate the stuck spinning search on an older Android device...  that usually makes it pretty easy to find the problem.   Stay tuned...

Spinning search with no results is not a symptom of the recent errors that the updates were directed at.  I have just tested with version 1.0.17 on all my Android devices and I do not see any issues with the search or download.  The search part you are describing is a very simple function using public YouTube routes so no reason for YouTube to mess with it.  My suspicion would be something blocking the app from accessing the internet.   You might try just a restart of the Android device or another uninstall/reinstall of the simple song collector to make sure nothing went goofy in the last install.

During a recent waiting period for an update from the folks that do the base library for the Simple Song Collector,  I found a non platform specific option to get music files that can be accessed via a browser on either Apple or Android.

There is an open source YouTube front end portal called Invidious that is hosted on multiple instances by various folks around the world.   There are a list of instances here:  https://docs.invidious.io/instances/  The instances are all vetted by the authors of the software so they are free from advertising, tracking, malware, etc.  It seems some of the instances will disable downloads when bandwidth usage gets too high for the hosting provider so you may need to try a couple to find one that allows it.

I tried this instance https://invidious.darkness.services/ with my Android browser, searched for a song, picked the one I wanted, look below the video for a 'Download as' picker.  Select one of the audio only options, click download button and the song should be visible in Walkout Song DJ my music.
