The other major app uses two tap hacks to work around the issues with these devices.

The ION pathfinder is still in transit... FedEx seems to have lost track of it 😡.  Hopefully, they will figure out where it is and get it here early next week.  In the meantime, I had a thought on a possible workaround that might tell me how likely my solution would work.  I think you could download a white noise mp3 file (easy to find on Google), create a dummy player, assign it the white noise for a song, turn its announcement to none, and then tap that player briefly before tapping the real player.  That should allow you a simple way to wake the speaker if it's been long enough for it to go to sleep.

What model of bluetooth speaker are you using?

I am working on a solution for some very poorly designed bluetooth speakers that go to sleep very quickly and require several seconds of actual audio signal to wake up.  For these specific speakers, an aux cord is not even a solution because the sleep and wakeup issue happens with aux or bluetooth.  Android actually does a pretty good job with bluetooth and the aux cord recommendation is not really applicable.  I am currently waiting on delivery of an ION pathfinder so I can test the solution.  Luckily, it seems there are thousands of these pieces of garbage speakers available in either open box or used condition because of how often they are returned.

It's a pretty tricky implementation because I have to send some audio signal to the speaker for the wakeup to occur, but it cannot be audible so the audience won't hear it, and it is only applicable for these poorly designed speakers so I have to make a toggle on or off in the settings.

Anytime this occurs with Apple music songs, I would recommend a force kill of the Apple music app as that is the software that is actually playing the music and reporting playback position to the Walkout Song App.

Can you do a share data from the settings page of the app and send to walkoutsongdj@gmail.com so I can see I can duplicate the issue here?

Then that just sounds like hiccups from the Apple Music player... it can get a bit wonky sometimes and does not give Walkout Song DJ good information.

Couple questions to help diagnose:
How often does this happen?
Is it with specific songs or random?
Do you have all the songs downloaded to the device?
Did it start this behavior recently and was not doing this before?
Have you tried force killing the Apple Music app and then restarting it?
Do you have the latest Walkout Song DJ version?

That would suggest that the app thinks the song has already stopped playing for some reason.  That is not normal and I've had no other reports of that.  What type of music source are you using, Apple Music or imported files?

That is not yet supported in the app.  In theory, it could be done with the Android version or with imported music files in the Apple version, but it could not be done with Apple Music songs due to limitations with Apple's music player.  I can mix announcements with Apple music but not music with music.

Funny, you're the first person that has asked about that in the 10 years the app has been released.

I'm not sure I understand your question... text to speech is not a file.  It is a function provided by your phone to read things for you.  What different text to speech file are you referring to?

On the Apple music song volume...  There isn't much control of that either so I'm not sure how that is coming out at higher volume than the text to speech.  You could check in your settings app under music to see if you have any EQ setting that is making it too loud.  You also could check in that same section that the Sound Check is on.

If that volume control for speech on the settings page of the app is all the way to the right, then the text to speech is as loud as it can go.  On all devices I have tested with, that is a pretty good volume match with the music.  If that is not the case, perhaps your music volume may be too loud.  What source of music are you using?  Apple music or file imports?

Announcement files are usually files you get from a voiceover professional that are emailed to you.  You tap the file attachment in the email and share it to walkout songs to import it.

There are thousands of voiceover freelancers on fiverr.com you could choose from.  Most are pretty reasonably priced.  There is one that most people are happy with mentioned in this thread:

That is already on the todo list, but thanks for confirming the need!

You are welcome!  Thanks for reporting back the success story.  Lots of times I try to resolve stuff here and never get any updates.  I hope I fixed it, but never know for sure.

For the no decodable audio tracks... please verify you have the latest version.  Go to the App Store, search for Walkout Song DJ and verify it displays version 2.16.6 and the button says 'open' and not 'update'.  If you do have the latest version and you are still getting the error with some songs, I would suggest removing those songs from your iTunes library, add them back, then repick the songs for the players in the Walkout Song app.

Now on the text to speech, it sounds like somehow the speech queue has some screen reading going on.  I would check the accessibility settings to see if any screen reading is enabled.

There is no volume control on config page for Apple Music songs so that's why you can't see it.  They are played through the same Apple Music player used by the Apple Music app and Apple provides no option to control that volume.

You would only see the gain control for songs if you were using purchased or imported songs.  In that case, I have access to the raw audio samples and I play them through a custom player where I can control the volume.

That is why I have no explanation for what you hear.  Playing a song through the Apple Music app and the Walkout Song App should have the same volume.

Do you hear the same volume difference if you play songs through the phone speaker?

Hmmm... that is unexpected.  Are you using Apple Music songs or songs you have purchased from iTunes?  The app actually uses the same Apple Music player to play Apple Music songs and there is no option to change that volume.  If you are using purchased songs, then there is a gain control on the song config for each player that can be used to raise or lower volume.    There is also a temporary decrease in music volume during player announcements so the announcement isn't drowned by the music.
