I have noticed in my app error logs that some users are running into a problem where they add an Apple Music song and immediately try to play it in the app and get a "File Not Found" error.

This does not happen frequently, but it happens with multiple songs for the same users.  I believe the problem with each particular song can be resolved by going into the music app, removing the song from the library and then adding it back so I suspect there is some corruption in the library database at the root of the problem.

The really odd thing is that this issue has been going on since I released the Apple Music support and I have received no reports here, via Facebook or nasty negative reviews on the app store.  That suggests that people it is happening to may know the reason.

If you are having the issue and could provide any clues as to what may have happened to your Apple Music library to cause it, please share your thoughts on the problem and how you resolve it.

Android users do not have the luxury of an iTunes library and a built in Apple music subscription so getting music sources for Walkout Song DJ can be more difficult and require purchasing of song files if you don't have a digital music collection left over from the 90's.

The easiest way to gather your song files is to just purchase the individual songs from amazon on your android device.  Amazon will ask you to install their Android app to download your purchases.  Once that is installed, open it and select my music, playlists, and then purchases and it should list what you have bought.  Tap the three dots at the end of each song row and select download and they will be put in your Android music files where walkout song dj can find them.  Older versions of the Amazon app used various storage methods so your purchased songs may not be visible or they may be obscured by subscription versions.  In that case, you can go into the settings app, application manager, and delete the data for the Amazon Music App to get to a clean slate on your device.

I have found recently, that you can actually purchase songs directly through the Amazon Music app.  Just use the search feature, find the song, again look for the three dot icon to the right of the song, tap that icon and select buy from the menu.  Complete the purchase, then go to "my music"|playlists|purchases, find the song you bought in the list, tap the three dots and select download from the menu and it will add the song to your Android music library and Walkout Songs should be able to find it.

You can also just ask the players to buy their individual song, download the song file and send you their song as a file attachment to an email.  Tap on the song file attachments in the emails and you should get an option to open with Walkout Songs which will put the files in the imports section.  Songs for situations can usually be found free floating around the internet by searching for "mp3 national anthem" for instance.  For those, just download with web browser, find the song in downloads and tap and open with walkout songs.

I know that upfront cost for the songs can be a burden, but if your the team sound person, you can usually request the team help spread the cost.

If the team or league has a charitable organization designation, I think the cost of music for the game should be a tax deductible donation :)

I am still working to add streaming service sources to both the Android and iOS, but it is a long slow legal process with the services which I have not been able to negotiate so far.

If anyone else has any other methods for gathering music files on Android, please reply here and maybe help out your fellow users.

Looks like I may have figured out enough tricks to manage most of the iOS limitations and allow the Walkout Song DJ app to use songs from an Apple Music subscription.  Still can't access the raw audio samples so gain control and equalizer cannot be applied, but everything else seems to be working.

Since lack of support for Apple Music subscription songs is the biggest source of 1 star ratings and negative reviews, it seems like the time is now to accept some limitations and allow the support even if it is not quite at the experience level of purchased songs and let the user make that choice.

I plan on starting a beta with the Apple Music support this week.  If you are interested in participating in the beta, please message me here or on the support forum with your email address.

Just wanted to alert users to another option for importing song files that is available with iOS 11.

There is a new files app in iOS that will show cloud sources for files.  If you put song files in mp3 or m4a format on those cloud drives, you can tap and share them with Walkout Song DJ.

Release Notes / Closed Alpha test of Android version to start 2/12/18
« on: February 10, 2018, 08:46:55 pm »
After nearly a year of work, the first alpha version of Walkout Song DJ for Android is ready for those who would like to help test it or are a desperate to use the app on the Android platform.  The only functionality not complete is the pregame playlist tab and import/export of the app config.  I was able to very closely recreate all the functionality of the most current version of the iOS version and even improved on the team selection functions.

If you are interested in participating in the alpha test, send me a message here or on the app facebook page and I will add you to the distribution list.

Release Notes / Bug in release 2.3.2
« on: September 26, 2017, 11:00:04 am »
There is a bug in the version 2.3.2 release from yesterday that prevents the user from granting permission for the app to access the iTunes library.

A fix has been submitted to Apple this morning and should be available shortly. The bug will not affect existing users upgrading to version 2.3.2 if permission for the app to access the iTunes library has already been granted. If you are affected by the bug and would like quicker resolution, please send a private message with your email address and I will add you to the beta list which should be slightly faster than waiting for Apple to review the general release.

News / Professional voice announcements
« on: March 10, 2017, 12:34:37 pm »
Did you know?

With the latest version of Walkout Song DJ, you can use professional voice announcements for your players! Do a screen shot of your team roster from the Walkout Song page and send it Casey Motter at https://www.facebook.com/allstarintros/. Casey is the stadium announcer for the Atlanta Braves. For a pretty reasonable price, he will record announcements for each of your players and send an email back to you with all the announcement files. Simply open Casey's email on your device, long tap each announcement file and select 'Copy to Walkout Songs' and the announcement will be available to select for your player from the announcement picker.
