Apple Music playback on iOS has no volume control provided by the operating system so there is no way to make it lower relative to the announcement.  The announcement does have volume control but it defaults to the maximum volume.  In my experience and retested just now, the volume of the two are fairly balanced...  Does this music too loud problem happen with all the Apple Music songs you try or just specific ones?  Can you do a device recording of what you are observing and email to me at Walkoutsongdj@gmail.com?

ok, I see what your suggesting...  I have added it to the update todo list.  Hopefully, I can get that done for the next update once the peak season subsides.

Issue Reporting / Re: Apple Music losing downloaded songs

That sounds like an issue in Apple Music itself as the Walkout Song app has no capability to remove songs from the library...

Are the affected songs actually from an Apple Music subscription or are they ones you have added to iTunes manually?

That error message is triggered when a song in your music library has its cloud flag set and the device is not connected to the internet.

Can you try opening the 'Walkout Song DJ' playlist in your music app with internet connected and tapping the red download arrow in the top right corner to force download of all the songs?  Verify all songs have the downloaded indicator visible, then retry your offline playback test.

That could probably be done... Could you tell me what device and operating system version you are using?  Perhaps attach a screenshot of the view where you want a larger volume control?  If you can't attach that here, maybe email it to me walkoutsongdj@gmail.com.

Is it possible that the new device does not have enough space for all the songs to be downloaded at once?  I know if you have the 'optimize storage' enabled in the settings app, music section, the device will remove less recently played songs to make room for new ones.   If it is a space problem, you may want to check if you have the audio quality set for lossless in that same music section of the settings app.

General Discussion / Walkout Song DJ on a Windows laptop
« on: April 14, 2022, 10:31:11 pm »
For anyone interested in running Walkout Song DJ on a Windows laptop...  there is an excellent free Android emulator called Bluestacks that runs very well on recent laptops.  I have been able to install Bluestacks, Walkout Song DJ, and the Simple Song Collector.  Full screen, it makes a pretty sweet combo if you are tired of trying to use a tiny phone screen.

Bluestacks will also run on an intel based mac laptop if you have one of those around.

I believe this is fixed by a new update release I just created:

https://github.com/UpAllNite-Software/simple-song-collector/releases/download/beta-1.0.10/ssc-beta-1.0.10.apk

Please download, install, and confirm if you have a chance.

Thanks for the report... that error is usually the result of YouTube making changes to their api that breaks the parsing to find the audio streams.  There are some similar reports on the page for the newpipe extractor library I use for that parsing so hopefully they will get it fixed shortly and I will rebuild and update the song collector.  This has happened three times over the last 18 months.  It is usually fixed within 24 hours.

Issue Reporting / Slow download speed
« on: April 07, 2022, 11:07:16 am »
I have noticed recently that the Song Collector is pretty slow downloading audio tracks.

I tracked the problem down to a recent change in YouTube that is throttling download speed to just a little faster than you would need to maintain a live stream of the material.  I have a new approach in development to download the material in multiple simultaneous smaller chunks and it seems to work well.  Stay tuned for a new release with that improvement in the next week or so.

Excellent...  appreciate the follow up comment for anyone else having the same issue.

Then there should be a gain control visible in the song configuration screen that is accessed with the arrow at the end of the player row.   Turn that down some and see if you can match the announcement volume.

I don't see the email yet with your configuration...   Maybe retry the send.

Have you tried killing the Apple Music app and restarting the device?  The Apple Music app is the one actually playing those songs and it has been known to act up occasionally.

Have you physically downloaded the songs to your iPad in the iTunes library or are they playing from the cloud.  If you haven't downloaded them, you might try that as well.

What version of iPad and iOS are you using?

Have you tried running it on a different Apple device?

There is quite a big difference between playing a playlist in the Apple Music app and the controlled playback from the Walkout songs app necessary for seeking, fading, and mixing.  There is a new Apple Music player spawned for each song and a parallel file player to allow the playback to continue if the phone sleeps.  It is quite a mess but is required to workaround the multitude of limitations and idiosyncrasies that the Apple Music player has.

I no longer have an iPhone 8 to test the scenario you describe, but I did have one at one time and don't recall any issues like you describe.  You mentioned you are still on iOS 14?  That particular version did have some nasty bugs in the Apple Music playback...   Is it possible for you to upgrade to a 15.x and see if the problem goes away?
