During walkout when voice starts, master volume on phone cuts from 10 to 1

Starting yesterday, every walkout causes the volume of the phone to drop to 1 (from 10) when the Murf.AI voice starts. I have configured most walkouts where the music starts, then a second or two later I'll have the announcement start. This app ducking has been working fine until now.

The ducking/volume issue doesn't seem to happen when the player's announcement starts before the music.

I'm using an iPhone 6s exclusively for this app and functionality, and it's been great.

All the songs are mp3s downloaded locally on the phone.

This isn't a bluetooth speaker issue, as it occurs even just on the phone without any bluetooth involved.

I'm using pre-generated Murf.AI voice announcements.

The only work-around I've found is if I quickly push volume down and then volume up (so from 10 to 9 to 10) when the music starts but before the announcement ducking, then the app ducks the music under the voice-over properly without affecting the phone's volume.

I've been using this app loudly and proudly for years. This is the first time I've had this issue. I haven't changed anything since last week when it worked. I did notice today that a new version is now installed (today?), with lots of volume-related fixes. This seems suspect...

I've got 3 more games to "dj" this week, and 4 next week. Then All-Stars and summer ball starts. So I'm hopeful to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Thanks!

Steve

Thought I'd include some versions....
Walkout Song DJ: 3.3.2
iPhone 6s
ios: 15.8.7

That would strongly suggest we broke something with the 3.3.2 release. Your device is a bit behind what we currently test with so not a huge surprise. I will take a look today to see if I have an older device in the stable to replicate the issue. Hopefully we can get a new release out to fix that for you.  I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the issue report.

I did find the issue today and it wasn't your device, just the combination of mp3 file playback from the middle with a fade-in.  I did a quick and easy hot-fix version 3.3.3 and requested an expedited review from Apple. I expect that to complete within a couple hours.  I will update on this thread when it is available.

Walkout Song DJ for ios version 3.3.3 has been released to address this issue and should be available in the app store momentarily

Thank you! Amazing turn around!!

I've installed it, and bug confirmed fixed.

Seriously, I've never seen or heard of a bug fix being turned around so quickly. Less than 6 hours after initial bug reported, to fixed and pushed through Apple's app updates.

I just had this problem for the first time. It was great to find this thread and a simple fix right away. 👍

Hi! Since the latest update, some walk-up songs occasionally remain stuck at a very low volume (after using fade out of previous walkout). It doesn't happen every time, but it regularly occurs with the same player. The only workaround so far is to manually raise the volume again. Am I the only one? Version 4.2.2 on old ipad ipadOS 17.7.10. No issues so far on new iPad with iPadOS 26.5. Thanks!

Update: On the newest iPad, the fade-out button is greyed out for some walk-up songs and doesn't happen all the time, and although the song is playing, the seconds aren't counting and cant fade out. The only button that is active is "next song" (in red). The only workaround is to manually lower the volume and then start the next track with the sound muted.

Could do a share data from the settings page of the app and send that to walkoutsongdj@gmail.com?
Could you also include as much detail as you can for how to repeat the issue?

It would be helpful to know:
-which player you are able to repeat the issue with?
-ipad model?
-What speaker model you are using?
-Are you connecting to the speaker with Bluetooth or an aux cable?
-Date when you first noticed the issue?
-Last date before that when it was working without issue?
-Do you have external speaker wakeup enabled on the settings page of the app?
-What is the volume level you are using when this occurs, max, 3/4, 1/2 ?

I will do.
First this issue: On the newest iPad, the fade-out button is greyed out for some walk-up songs and doesn't happen all the time, and although the song is playing, the seconds aren't counting and cant fade out. It would be helpful to know:
-which player you are able to repeat the issue with? list Neptunus 2026 number 4 most of the time). But you have to try multiple times
-ipad model? iPad A16
-What speaker model you are using? Just iPad sound
-Are you connecting to the speaker with Bluetooth or an aux cable? Just on iPad but normally with cable but not tested yet
-Date when you first noticed the issue? after last update
-Last date before that when it was working without issue? few weeks ago?
-Do you have external speaker wakeup enabled on the settings page of the app? No.
-What is the volume level you are using when this occurs, max, 3/4, 1/2 ? Max

on the which player question, I meant the name of your player entry where the issue is occurring.  So I can try to duplicate here.

I received your data and I am not having any luck duplicating any issues.  As most of the recent changes that could impact volume were all done with checks for Bluetooth, you're really not hitting any new code. Also, none of those code changes were done in the time period between June 6 and 13.  Most were done in April and late May. I suspect you may just be dealing with some Apple music playback issues. That would also explain the button issues.

Can you confirm that all issues are occurring with the old iPad and not the newer one?
