ALERT: one of the AI announcement providers is having issues again this morning so you will only get 10 of the usual 50 or so voices. I have notified the provider and I expect to get it fixed soon. The better voices are still available, but I understand if you created teams with one of the now missing voices and you are just adding a player, you are probably stuck until I can get this remedied. Hopefully, this won't take too long to resolve. Also note, this is why I found a new provider that is the source of the voices you can still see. I would recommend switching over to one of them just for reliability.

News / Walkout Song DJ moving from paid app to free with one time purchase
June 10, 2026, 04:46:54 PM
Just a heads up for everyone... I just moved Walkout Song DJ for iOS from a paid app to a limited free app with a one time purchase premium of $6.99 today. The change was made to allow the app to be available for people to compare will all the new AI generated copy cat apps.
For those of you who purchased prior versions already, you should not see any difference in app behavior other than an Account Status on the settings page of the app that indicates that you have Premium status = grandfathered. If for any freaky reason that is not the case for you, please DM me here and we will get it fixed for you.
If you have friends out there that wanted to try it out but the price for download was a barrier, please let them know they can try it now for free.

Release Notes / New Release 1.0.26

YouTube SABR Protocol Changes
YouTube has fully enforced their new SABR (Server Adaptive Bitrate) streaming
protocol across all clients. Audio-only streams (128kbps AAC) are no longer
available through the extraction method this app uses.
What changed:
- YouTube now only serves a single 360p progressive video stream (itag 18)
to third-party clients. All higher quality audio and video formats are
locked behind YouTube's proprietary SABR protocol, which no open-source
library currently supports.
How this release adapts:
- When no audio-only stream is available, the app downloads the 360p video
and extracts the audio track automatically.
- Song metadata (title, artist, album art) is still embedded in the
downloaded file.
- The extraction is transparent — the download experience is unchanged.
Audio quality impact:
- Before: 128kbps AAC (audio-only stream)
- Now: 96kbps AAC (extracted from 360p video)
- Both use the same AAC-LC codec. The difference is minor for most
listening purposes but may be noticeable in quiet passages or on
high-quality headphones.
Download size impact:
- The 360p video must be fully downloaded before audio extraction, so
downloads are temporarily larger during transfer. The final saved
file contains only the audio track and is comparable in size to before.
Why this happened:
- YouTube is progressively restricting access to separate audio/video
streams to combat third-party downloading tools. The 360p progressive
format remains available because it serves as a legacy fallback for
older devices and embedded players.

Issue Reporting / Android 4.0.xx bug preventing walkout song playback when announcements disabled
February 27, 2026, 11:47:54 PM
A user reported an Android issue this evening 2/27/26 that her Android Walkout Song DJ app would no longer play the songs on the walkout page but would play from any other page. Dug around and found a nasty bug introduced in the Apple Music support effort that prevented songs on the walkout page from playing when the announcements enabled toggle on the settings page of the app was set to false. I have a new build version 4.0.5 that will remedy the issue. Hopefully Google will review it quickly and get it published shortly. If you are running into the issue, the quick fix is to enable the announcements toggle.

Release Notes / Walkout Song DJ Android with Apple Music support
February 25, 2026, 12:32:33 PM
There is a new release of Walkout Song DJ for Android version 4.0.3 that now has support for Apple Music song sources. If you are hesitant to use the Simple Song collector side load, this should be a great option for you.
The only unsolvable issues that the integration introduces are related to the fact that this must be a pure streaming integration. That results in a small delay in song loading from the cloud and requires that internet connectivity is present for playback.
You also would be required to have an active Apple Music Subscription.
Additional benefits would be the full Apple Music song catalog searchable right in the app, easy import and export with Walkout Song DJ Apple users, and no song storage space used on your device.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Update on Spotify support
February 07, 2026, 11:32:34 AM
(February 7th, 2026): I was once again reviewing the possibility of supporting a Spotify integration. Spotify does provide some tools to integrate with but they limit how much activity your developer token is permitted. That limit is 25 users unless you have a partnership with them. There documentation for an partnership application has these requirements:
Quota Extension Request for New Potential Partners
Please note that as of May 15th 2025, Spotify only accepts applications only from organizations (not individuals). For more information on this update, read here.
Application must be sent through a company email by using this form. Check out the implementation requirements below to make sure your company is compatible before submitting your application.
Implementation requirements:
Established Business Entity (legally registered business or organisation)
Operating an active, and Launched Service
Maintaining a minimum of active users (at least 250k MAUs)
Being available in key Spotify markets
Commercial Viability
Adherence to Terms
The 250,000 Monthly Active Users is the big issue. They do not want to deal with niche applications like this. I believe the Walkout Song DJ app MAU with Android and Apple combined is at most 60k in the big months of March and April and it will be a long time until the user base would grow to that size :(

I noticed quite a few crashes after the iOS update to version 3.1.13 in the realm of copy and move of players and edit of player names. Issue Reporting / AI Announcement voice generate errors
July 10, 2025, 10:35:10 AM
It seems the Murf AI people removed the Finn voice for some reason. As that was the default in the Apple version, that will cause some errors. I am working on a fix to pick a new default and better handle missing voices from Murf AI. I have requested that Murf put that voice back as I suspect thousands of people were using it. Please watch this thread for updates.
As a workaround for now, you should be able to pick a different voice and it should work.
