Issue Reporting / iOS 'No decodable audio track error'
« on: April 22, 2023, 03:56:37 pm »
A few users who recently updated to iOS 16.4.1 are reporting failure to play some specific songs that used to work.  When they try to play them now, they get a 'No decodable audio track error'

I traced down the issue in the code and I am working on fix for release in the coming week.

In the meantime, you can workaround the issue by swipe killing the Walkout Song DJ app, and then going into the apple music app and removing the local download of the files that are generating the error.  That will force them to play from the cloud, but will avoid the error code condition.

Three users have reported an issue where their Samsung devices have updated to Android 13 and the google text to speech engine is muted for doing player announcements.  If you switch the text to speech engine to the Samsung engine, the announcements work, but the voice selection and quality is limited.  I have a galaxy tab s8 on order that should arrive on November 23rd.  Hopefully, it will update to android 13 and I can debug this issue to see if there is some setting or workaround that can get the google engine working again.

General Discussion / Walkout Song DJ on a Windows laptop
« on: April 14, 2022, 10:31:11 pm »
For anyone interested in running Walkout Song DJ on a Windows laptop...  there is an excellent free Android emulator called Bluestacks that runs very well on recent laptops.  I have been able to install Bluestacks, Walkout Song DJ, and the Simple Song Collector.  Full screen, it makes a pretty sweet combo if you are tired of trying to use a tiny phone screen.

Bluestacks will also run on an intel based mac laptop if you have one of those around.

Issue Reporting / Slow download speed
« on: April 07, 2022, 11:07:16 am »
I have noticed recently that the Song Collector is pretty slow downloading audio tracks.

I tracked the problem down to a recent change in YouTube that is throttling download speed to just a little faster than you would need to maintain a live stream of the material.  I have a new approach in development to download the material in multiple simultaneous smaller chunks and it seems to work well.  Stay tuned for a new release with that improvement in the next week or so.

I wrote a very simple open source Android app to gather walkout songs from YouTube called 'Simple Song Collector'
You can download it from here:

https://github.com/UpAllNite-Software/simple-song-collector/releases/download/1.0.14/ssc-1.0.14.apk
(may need to long tap and select download link on newer Android devices)

You may need to change your Android settings when prompted to allow sideload installation from your browser and override safety warnings, but there are no ads, tracking, or malware included so it is safe to do so.

Just enter title and artist in the search, pick the best match, tap the download button and it will add the song to your android files and Walkout Songs DJ will be able to see and use them in the 'My Music' selector.  If you need to browse for the song files, they will be in the "Downloads/SimpleSongFinder" folder of your Android file manager.  The Simple Song Finder also provides a choice of music or video search from the three dot button in the upper right.  Some songs seem to only be available in the video category.

Issue Reporting / Apple Music and Text to Speech overlap with iOS 13
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:41:12 am »
Apple did a bit of a butcher job with the overlapping of text to speech with the Apple Music player in iOS 13 and it is still broken in all the patches up to 13.1.2.  As a workaround until they figure it out... you can:

- try different voices (the behavior is different with each).
- try to either completely overlap the song and announcement or keep them from overlapping at all (one starting while the other is playing is the broken piece)
- purchase the specific songs you use for walk ups. (Non-Apple music songs do not use the problem player)
- use an alternate Apple device on iOS 12 or earlier.
